WM NEMBA DIALED-IN

A newsletter to keep you dialed-in to what’s happening in the Mt. Wash. Valley biking scene!

Greetings WMNEMBA members! It's hard to believe the regular riding season is on the downside already.  The upside is we get to look forward to some nice, cool, bugless riding weather in the fall. Yay for us! If you’re a winter biker we hope to add grooming on the East Side this year. But, we need a trailer to haul the snow dog around along with some folks to drive it! Let us know at wmchapter@nemba.org if you’d like to learn snow dogging.

TRAIL WORK

We’ve been busy and hope you like the improvements on Pillar-to-Pond, Swamp, Outer Limits, Quarry, T-Bone, Mineral Site, and all the work you do “On Your Own” or as Trail Adopters. We’ve also assisted with some work on the new Pine Hill USVLT managed uphill trail adjacent to Kennett HS. They’re not nearly ready to ride but we’ll let you know when to go weeeee!

Also, we're still pressing on with our Tuesday Night Trails (TNT).   See Golden Volunteer for TNT announcements. Thank you for ALL your help with trail work! BUILD, BIKE, REPEAT

NEW WEBSITE

The new website is up and running!!! It’s a new look and feel, and hopefully easier to get around in. Here are a few highlights:

  1. Events calendar with a link to Golden Volunteer

  2. Future Projects (currently under construction but will list projects and status)

  3. Maps of trail networks

  4. This Newsletter!

Check it out and bookmark at www.wmnembachapter.org. Please note, and to avoid any confusion, there is a separate WM NEMBA website nemba.org/chapters/wmnemba that is a page off the NEMBA regional website where the content is a bit different. Check that out too…

Let us know what you think about the new website by emailing wmnembachapter@gmail.org.

                NEW TRAIL MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES

We’ve updated our trail management process in order to be more efficient and effective at maintaining all our network of trails. We think the procedures will provide better communication and allow us to appropriately budget and vet through landowners for needed trail improvements. Also, it will get more people involved as it takes a strong and supportive club to maintain our 50+ miles of trails. See a summary below or read the whole document at Trail Management Procedures.

  • 7 Trail Zones with leaders tasked with ensuring trails are in good repair

  • Zone leaders consider member input and report trail needs to the Trail Committee Chair

  • Trail Committee Chair reports to the WMNEMBA Board of Directors who approves projects and associated budgets

  • Members can complete trail works “On Your Own”

  • Members can take ownership of a trail(s) by formally adopting

FLATBREAD COMPANY FUNDRAISER

It’s time to raise some money by eating some guilt free pizza and bringing an auction item/bike parts. Jean Lee has graciously volunteered to head up the effort again! But she needs some help from us…

  1. Secure a donation - e.g.; gift certificate, product, interesting item, etc.

  2. Text Jean at 603-986-4145 with your item and est. value

  3. Drop item at her house - 288 Old Bartlett Rd, Kearsarge or bring by Flatbreads NLT 5pm on 12 Sep

  4. Good bike parts e.g.; pedals, stems, seats, clothing, etc. for the “bike boxes”. Attendees will make a donation for the items.

  5. Come eat some pizza as a portion of the profit goes to our chapter!

  6. Buy some tickets for an auction item.

Our hope is to raise enough funds for a A TRAILER for the SNOWDOG so it can be used in different areas as well as have a secure summer home!!! See you at the fundraiser :)

Membership Meetings

We hope you had a good time at Saco River Brewing for the July meeting. Next time around, we’ll step inside for the meeting portion. Also, sorry for the delay in getting the meeting minutes out…. The dog ate my homework but I did managed to get him to cough up some details. See minutes at Membership Meeting Minutes - 07.15.22. A big thank you to Mason Irish of Saco River Brewing for sponsoring the meeting and for generously donating lots of brewskis.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Nov 29th, venue to be determined. Until then, RIDE ON and stay safe out there!
